Winter’s Evening

Painted on stretched Belgian Portrait Linen with oil pigments in a color palette of Wintery sky, snow covered pasture to shades of sunset with bay horse. While leading my horse back to the barn this bitter wintery evening, I was so impressed by the beautiful contrasts of nature.  His dark shape against the pale background; his soft, warm coat against the sharp icy snow;  his gentle, kind eye against the harsh weather. Somehow it illustrated for me what these wonderful animals mean to us- a warm, gentle oasis, no matter how harsh the rest of the world.
