The Rhode Island Red’s amazing ability to lay about 265 eggs a year made it famous worldwide and became the parent of several modern hybrid egg layers. These glossy mahogany-colored hens with black tail feathers are as beautiful as they are gentle and productive. Pick-up for all Ready-to-Lay birds will be on February 15, 2025 at Russell Feed & Supply in Saginaw from 8AM - 10AM. At this time, your hen(s) will be 16 weeks of age which is about 2 weeks out from when most hens lay their first egg. In their first year, you can expect up to 200-280 large brown eggs from high-producing, well-fed Rhode Island Reds.
