Business continuity is reliant upon effective stakeholder mapping, assessments and engagement strategies. It is critical for leadership teams to understand the importance of identifying and dealing with both internal and external stakeholders – and the methodologies and systems used to exponentially increase the capacity of incident and crisis management teams to deal with a critical event. This includes understanding the types and importance of stakeholders, grading their salience and the associated level and nature of interaction required, defining the methods for engagement, establishing authorities for interaction, and taking into account the common faults which undermine stakeholder management – as well as success strategies.
