Sherline Tool Holder w/ 55° Carbide Insert LH
Description Sherline Tool Holder w/ 55° Carbide Insert LH Features 55° carbide insert for precision Constructed from case-hardened steel Finished with black oxide coating Offers 5° offset angle for precise cuts Doubles lifespan with rotatable insert The Sherline Tool Holder w/ 55° Carbide Insert LH is a precision-engineered tool designed for use in miniature machine tools. It features a 55° carbide insert, which is securely fastened with a hold-down screw and can be adjusted using a special Torx key. The tool holder is constructed from case-hardened steel and finished with a black oxide coating, ensuring durability and resistance to wear. This tool holder is designed with a 3/8″ square shank, compatible with a 3/8″ tool post, and incorporates a 5° offset angle to facilitate precise cutting operations. The offset angle allows for efficient turning of an outer diameter up to a shoulder, with the ability to finish the shoulder by retracting the tool while maintaining proper clearance. The cutting tip is positioned .375″ from the bottom of the holder, adhering to industry standards. Carbide inserts, while more costly than high-speed steel tools, offer significant advantages in cutting performance, particularly with exotic metals or abrasive materials. They maintain their cutting edge longer and can expedite the cutting process, making them indispensable in professional machine shops. The design allows for the insert to be rotated 180° when one edge becomes dull, effectively doubling the tool's lifespan. Note: A tool is named by the direction from which the chip leaves the tool; thus, a left-hand tool has its cutting edge on the right, and the chip peels off to the left.
