Unfortunately, the ability to go from 0 to 30 in under a minute is a very useful skill in such a car-dominated city, and something I didn't have. Also no air conditioning. I highly suggest both of these things in Los Angeles. Freeways dominate the landscape, and a hard edge of the Pacific Ocean to the west orients the city as a radiating playground that is best experienced in a car.
