
Boat at Vrellos Beach
15.75x11.75" Mixed Media/Oil on canvas panel, 1/4" depth (frame w/mat recommended, not included) While spending a day at Vrellos Beach in Spetses, Greece, this humble little rowboat caught my eye. It appeared to be retired, sitting alone in the trees and silence behind the lively beachgoers. Objects like this make me wonder about their history--who used them in the past and for what purpose?The process and materials behind this piece are extra special and allow the end result to serve as a collection of keepsakes and memories from my art retreat in Greece.For two weeks, I collected various things from places I visited or activities I did: paper table placemats, a ferry ticket to Hydra for a day excursion, shopping bags (one with the name Spetses on it), a hairnet from the day we rode horses in Hydra, my boarding pass to Athens, a plastic sack I pulled from the ocean, and even some used paper napkin paint rags. I then collaged them onto the canvas panel as the first layer and did the pa
