Reptiles are ectotherms ("cold-blooded"), which means that they don't produce their own body heat. Instead, they rely on outside sources of heat like the Sun to get the heat energy that their bodies need to function properly. The Zoo Med ReptiTemp Digital Thermostat is a non-proportional (on/off) thermostat with both "Heat" and "Cool" modes to more effectively control the temperature in your reptile or amphibian's terrarium. "Heat" mode turns heating devices (heat mats, ceramic heat emitters, etc.) on as necessary, and "Cool" mode turns cooling devices (ex: fans) on as necessary.
