Portrait of Pope Julius II

Sitting on his papal seat, Julius II nicknamed by his contemporaries "The Terrible" but shows his more human side with the look of a resigned old man. The portrait testifies to the evolution of Raphael's style, which passes from the frozen portraits of Florentine notables to a psychological representation of the characters as well as the elimination of the sensation of distance between the figure and the spectator.
