They only weigh 1.7 pounds each and have a nice padding around the edge to protect the material and provide more comfort while wearing them.  These plates are tested to the NIJ Level IV standards. The price is $80 per plate and they are sold as a pair for $160. It is made of Alumina (AL2O3) PE (polyethylene) so that is a lot lighter then steel plates. It also can take multi-hits. This is also rated to stop armor piercing rounds up to 30-06 caliper, so this includes 5.56, .223, 7.62x39.  No background check is needed to purchase.
