It is a relatively small to medium-sized tree, typically reaching 30 to 50 feet in height, though some specimens may grow taller under optimal conditions. The Fraser fir is distinguished by its dense, pyramidal shape, dark green needles with silvery-white undersides, and aromatic foliage. Its bark is smooth and gray when young, becoming slightly rougher with age. The tree produces upright, cylindrical cones that disintegrate to release seeds while still attached to the branches. Fraser fir thrives in cool, moist climates and acidic, well-drained soils, often found on high mountain slopes above 4,500 feet.
