A 3-piece chafing dish crafted in the renowned "Old Sheffield Plate" technique from the 1700s, this piece is a testament to the ingenuity and artistry of its time. Old Sheffield Plate was invented in 1742 by Sheffield cutler Thomas Boulsover, who discovered the process of fusing thin sheets of sterling silver to copper to create a durable and elegant silver product. This chafing dish showcases classic rolled edges—one of the hallmarks of authentic Old Sheffield Plate—and bears many signs of being handcrafted by a skilled artisan.
