Prunus avium 'Bing' The standard that sweet cherries are judged against - introduced in 1875 and still growing strong! The deliciously large, firm black cherry that eastern Washington is famous for. It grows well in dry climates but the fruit may crack if rain comes during harvest time. Needs a pollinizer, which can be other sweet cherry varieties like Rainier, Sam, Van, (except Lambert, Royal Ann or Napoleon), and even the very late blooming Montmorency pie cherry. Requires 700-900 chill hours to reliably bloom and set fruit.
