CIVIL WAR AMES M 1850 FOOT OFFICER SWORD DATED & INSPECTED IN 1861 ONE OF 425
CIVIL WAR AMES M 1850 FOOT OFFICER SWORD DATED INSPECTED IN 1861 DELIVERED IN 1862 ONE OF 425 , THIS A VERY RARE AMES IN EXISTENCE IN ANY CONDITION. THE SCABBARD IS 100% INTACT, WITH A SMALL REPAIR . IT IS ESTIMATED THAT LESS THAN 75 OUT OF THE 425 MADE AND DATED IN 1861 ARE IN EXISTENCE, REGARDLESS OF CONDITION. THIS WAS A $6000 SWORD PLUS A FEW YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF RARITY IF YOU WERE ABLE TO FIND ONE. THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR THE AMES COLLECTOR. Ames is probably the most desirable maker amongst American sword collectors. All things considered equal, these swords will almost certainly command a premium above their counterparts. There is much already written about the The Ames Sword Company (herein referred to as "Ames"). In my opinion, Civil War Cavalry & Artillery Sabers by John Thillman and The Ames Sword Company 1835 - 1865 by John Hamilton, will cover most of the collector's curiosities.
