They're what we stand for. *** Say it with us: When we say Anti-Binary, we mean “working to abolish gender-based roles & violence & hierarchies.” When I came out at 18, I was in seminary to be a priest. I was searching for a place that would stop my desire to sleep with men. The seminary wasn’t that place. Instead, I discovered the abuse and corruption of the Catholic Church first hand, and I knew immediately that coming out wasn’t just about sexuality. It was also about deeply questioning my own gender identity & expression. Luckily, I found Kate Bornstein and her My Gender Workbook early on as a baby Queerdo, and it helped me better understand who I want to be, and how I want my body to inhabit that being (aka express it via gender.) As I continue growing, I continue learning all the ways we use gender to enforce hierarchical roles through violence. And like all other social constructs, gender must ultimately be done away with
