Porrée originally published the first treatise (in English, History of ceremonies and superstitions that have entered the Church) under the title of Traité des anciennes ceremonies (Treatise of the old ceremonies) in 1646 with a second edition in 1662. It was reprinted a number of times, though an 1858 French language article reports this printing by Bernard was the first with this title. In it Porrée examines church worship for almost a millennium to discover the original purity of the ceremonies and thus answer those who challenged the
