Yo Semite and Other Poems

by Jean Bruce WashburnJean Bruce Washburn (1838-1904) earned the nickname "The Poetess of Yosemite" for her poetry found in such collections as this book "Yo Semite," which draws inspiration from the rich history of Yosemite Indian legends. Born to Albert Henry Washburn, a key figure in making Yosemite accessible to the public, Jean grew up surrounded by the natural wonders of the region. Albert's efforts included constructing a stage road linking Wawona to the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, as well as establishing a hotel where Jean lent her talents. Eventually, she named the property "Wawona," derived from the Native American term believed to signify "Big Tree." Wawona is also the location of the now-historic Wawona Hotel.  This scarce copy is in very good condition. Its original brown cloth with a gilt title and decorative design in blind on the front panel. The panels have bevel edges, with slight wear to the extremities and bumping to the edges.
