A wonder book for girls and boys / 1884

by Nathaniel Hawthorne Six legends of Greek mythology, retold for children by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Included are The Gorgon’s Head, The Golden Touch, The Paradise of Children, The Three Golden Apples, The Miraculous Pitcher, and The Chimaera.  Beautifully bound in decorative red cloth with a pictorial cover and gilt title on the spine and text block edges. The board covers and spine have shelf wear, bumping, and frying to the edges. The lower board has soiling and fraying due to book bumping. The front paste-down has remnants of the previous bookplate or sticker. The half-title page has been repaired on the verso. The tissue paper at the frontispiece is loose. The binding is cracked at the lower pastedown. The pages are otherwise clean and unmarked.
