Chenrezigs (Sanskrit: Avalokiteshvara) is the supreme embodiment of compassion and the personification of the bodhisattva ideal. He is the national deity of Tibet. The Dalai Lama and Gyalwa Karmapa are said to be his incarnations. This 4-armed depiction is the main form of Chenrezigs, the helper of all sentient beings. His two primary hands are together holding a wish-granting gem and his other hands hold the crystal rosary and a lotus. He is shown here in the midst of his snow mountain paradise called "Potala" after which the Dalai Lama's palace in Lhasa is named.
