Saint Andrew was the first of the apostles, the brother of the first pope and is usually associated with Scotland, despite not being even remotely a Scotsman. As the patron of Scotland, the flag features Saint Andrew's Cross, which symbolizes the way he was crucified (though like his brother he was adamant that he not be crucified in the same way Jesus Christ had been), and it also reminiscent of Greece where he is also patron.
