
Imperial Star Artichoke (90 Days)
Typically artichokes are perennials in zone 7 and above but the Imperial Star Artichoke variety was bred specially for northern climates to produce well developed buds in the first season. A vernalization is required in the north for first year buds set the seedlings out for 10 days at temperatures of 45-50 degrees. This tricks them into thinking they have gone through a winter and they will produce like a 2 year old plant. The flavor of fresh artichokes is superior to anything you will find in the store.
