Fabric is wrapped around pieces of cardstock and tacked or glued down (this will accurately shape your fabrics to the shape of the template), then you stitch the pieces together, side by side, in different patterns to create something beautiful! Quilts, table runners, coasters, bags, etc I highly recommend: All Points Patchwork by Diane Gilleland to learn this art, however you can also just google and read/watch videos for instruction.
