A leaden weight hangs in the sky, A solemn shroud to meet the eye, A world in shadow draped and bound, A pallor spreading all around. The birds have hushed their joyful song, The wind has ceased to play along, The earth lies still, in mournful guise, Beneath the veil of cloudy skies.
