This is a unique mineral specimen: a medium sized polished sphere of black moonstone! This silvery-grey to brown sable feldspar variety isn’t often seen, and comes from Madagascar. Like its well-known relative, rainbow moonstone, black moonstone displays iridescence and chatoyancy. In this rounded polished orb, it is expressed as zones of glowing light which floats across the stone's surface. There are also zones of golden iron staining, raw edges, and graphic crystalline patterns in addition to the translucent feldspar. This sable beauty displays soft velvety color and beautiful sheen! It is the perfect size to nestle in your hand or display on a shelf--it would make a handsome addition to any mineral buff's collection. It would also be appropriate for meditation or gridding.
