This is an original 1939 halftone print (with caption in French) of the "Celestial Sphere" sculpture by Paul Manship at the 1939 New York World's Fair. In the background is the replica of Philadelphia's Independence Hall. Also shown are the flags lining the Court of Peace. The 1939-40 New York World's Fair was located in the Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in New York City. Opening on April 30, 1939, the Fair ran for two seasons, from April to October 1939 and 1940, and closed on October 27, 1940. Coming at the end of the Great Depression, the Fair focused on the "World of Tomorrow." Keeping with this theme, many of the exhibits and structures of the Fair were futuristic in design. They included the Trylon and Perisphere; the Helicline, an elevated curved walkway, the GM Futurama exhibit, and the Westinghouse robot, Elektro. Many countries participated, and over 44 million visitors attended the Fair over the two seasons. CONDITIONThis 72+ year old Item is rated Very Fine +++. No aging. N
