From the Lady Annabella Mine in Durham County England Eastgate / Weardale area Approximately 2-3" The first group of miners to find these gem-like fluorite crystals must have been Prince fans. Honestly, who can blame them? Why else would they name this pocket the "Purple Rain" pocket? Sure they have a lush deep purple hue and when viewed in the sunlight, they seem to emanate a violet aura but that's probably coincidental. In mining terminology, a "pocket" is a grouping or vein of crystals found underground. Each pocket is named upon discovery. This particular pocket was named the "Purple Rain" pocket for reasons still left up for debate. To be honest, it's probably a mix of both. They are indeed a radiant purple and the album Purple Rain is a banger. Why not name them after both? Either way, these are really something special. This mine closed in 2022 after depleting all the fluorite minerals including the purple rain pocket. That means once these are gone, there won't be any more! Any
