It is part of the Percidae family, which includes modern perch and related fish. Because of the high quality of its fossils, Mioplosus labracoides is one of the best-known fossil fish from the Green River Formation. Its remains help scientists reconstruct the ancient lake ecosystems and understand the evolution of modern predatory fish. These fossil fish provide an interesting look into our earth’s ancient past.
