
Online Zoom Class: Tulle Cupped Corset
To my mind, corsets are the hidden hero in a garment. They shape, support, and provide a foundation for your fashion fabric to “hang” from. They hold the weight of a skirt, cinch the waist and provide stability to the wearer. In this workshop, we will be working with tulle to create a strong but lightweight Couture corset, made with boning, underwires, a waist stay, and custom foam cups. Traditionally, this type of corset would have been made with English bobbinet, or Swiss illusion but they are becoming increasingly hard to find (and are expensive), so for the purpose of this wearable muslin and test garment, we shall block tulle to create the same structure and outcome. I like to recommend Orange Lingerie’s Esplanade bra pattern, it’s beautifully drafted, has many cup sizes and is easily extended to the length of your choice, but most corset pattern with cups can be used.
