Natura Naturans - Original Painting
“Natura Naturans” Original 29.5" x 37.25" (framed) oil painting on wood panel. Natura naturans is a Latin term meaning "nature naturing" or "nature doing what nature does". These terms are most commonly associated with the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza. For Spinoza, natura naturans refers to the self-causing activity of nature. From the seed does the plant grow and from hunger does the cat stalk, each contributing to the broader Nature of the Earth and Cosmos. Upon a ground state of potential does the actuality of their presence unfold both from within Nature and in presentation to it. The soft lead paw of the cat steps into the unknown future leaving behind the moments of its previous self in time, and in the artifacts of its physicality impressed upon the world to be revealed again at the intersection of attention and discovery.
