The Marshall Tucker Band “This Old Cowboy Ad” 1973 Graphite Pencil & India ink on Board   We were doing a lot of work for Phil Walden and Capricorn Records when this Marshall Tucker “breakaway single” was on it’s way to the top of the charts. Phil wanted something that was not only dynamic and sexy but “Country Americana” as well. The art masters who came before us were always a source of inspiration. As a huge fan of George Petty, myself, when I showed Drew samples of his work he quickly became a fan as well. This piece speaks volumes to that influence. First as a fine artist and now as an illustrator, Struzan became consumed with established illustrators like Maxfield Parrish, JC Leyendecker, Coles Phillips and Alphonse Mucha, whom he was discovering while at Pacific Eye & Ear.
