Christ "Crown of Thorns" Orthodox Icon This icon depicts a very rare version of the Savior in which is is crowned with thorns as is recorded in the Gospel account, "And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe" John 19:2. The parallel that most resembles this portrayal in iconography would be the Bridegrooom Icon.
