The material is porcelain and the outside is black colored and fired (unglazed) at a reduced firing temperature of 1260°C. It is handmade by rokuro molding, and has a finger mark from the water grinding process. The inside and outside of the lip are glazed with matte white porcelain and painted with fuchi-beni (reddish-brown). The porcelain material is hard and stain resistant, The finger marks on the surface give it the softness of the clay. The bowl is glazed with white porcelain with a glazed inside and outside lip.
