Sansui SR-929 Turntable. Restored and Recapped with New Cardas Wire & Ortofon Cart.
The SR-929 is Sansui's most desirable turntable. It was designed at a time when competition between manufactures drove quality and design to high standards. For this reason, the SR929 can be compared to any of the latest "high-end" turn tables made today. I received this turntable in original condition after being stored for a number of years. The speed was inconsistent and the audio signal was hindered by an annoying 60hz hum. I began with a mechanical restoration to the drive motor and speed sensor. The power supply was recapped and all voltages adjusted. The speed is perfectly stable and the "quartz-lock" function works beautifully. The tone arm (rumored to be designed by Micro Seiki) was in good condition but the internal wiring was frayed at the pivot point. I elected to rewire the tone arm with Cardas twin-pair & shielded 33awg wire. I chose shielded wire to eliminate interference from the electrical circuitry and to provide protection inside the tonearm pivot. I
