Deion Luwynn Sanders (August 9, 1967-) holds the rare distinction of having successfully played both professional football as a cornerback and Major League Baseball as an outfielder. As such, he is arguably regarded as one of the most versatile athletes of his era. Sanders played a nine-year, part-time baseball career, playing left and center field in 641 games with four teams – the New York Yankees (1989-1990), Atlanta Braves (1991-1994), Cincinnati Reds (1994-1995, 1997, 2001), and San Francisco Giants (1995). The Kansas City Royals drafted “Prime Time” in the 6th round of the 1985 MLB Draft, but he did not sign with them. The Yankees later took him in the 30th round of the 1988 Draft. His most productive year in baseball came in 1992, when he hit .304, stole 26 bases, and let the National League with 14 triples in 97 games.
