Her command of the role’s formidable demands is nothing short of superhuman, navigating its extremes with remarkable poise and concluding with a luminous, exquisitely phrased Liebestod. Karl Liebl is an excellent Tristan, his performance leaving one wishing for more of Act III. At the podium, Ludwig Kaufmann, a familiar figure in Wiesbaden, offers a surprisingly thoughtful and well-shaped reading of the score.
