Gluck: Orfeo ed Euridice - Fischer-Dieskau, Schwarzkopf, Popp; Perlea. 1967
Orfeo ed Euridice Christoph Willibald Gluck (1714 - 1787) DESCRIPTION While I usually favor a mezzo-soprano or countertenor in the title role of Orfeo, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau proves to be a compelling exception. He brings a stoic presence and expressive warmth to the part, delivering Gluck's music with a deep sensitivity to both text and line. His innate musicality and grasp of the opera’s classical structure make for an interpretation that feels both thoughtful and emotionally resonant. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, though arguably underutilized as Euridice, still leaves a strong impression with her characteristic elegance and vocal finesse. A young Lucia Popp adds brightness and charm as Amore, completing a distinguished cast that brings refinement and poise to this performance.
