The hard anodized polishing tape blank is used as a mounting platform for lapping films like Edge Pro's 2000, 3000 or 6000 grit polishing tapes.  The polishing tapes adhere to the polish tape blank, then the polish tape blank mounts in the stone arm so it can be used just like your sharpening stones.
