Welo, Very Rare, Dark-Base, No Smoke, Oval Cabochon, Hexagon Honeycomb Gem Type - Welo Opal NO SMOKE TREATMENT Shape - Oval Cabochon Color - Dark Base, Hexagon Honeycomb, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Pinkish Red Weight - 4.10 carats Clarity - Translucent Luster - Excellent Treatment - None, Natural dark-base and no smoke was used to darken the color. 100% natural. Origin - Ethiopia  Size - 15.0 x 9.0 x 5.5 mm Hardness - Opals are always soft gems and best for occasional wear or as pendants. They are also frequently intolerant of chemicals and may absorb oils. Mild soap and water only for cleaning.  Notes - Dark-base Well opals are ver desirable. This caused many dealers to start smoking the opals to make the base darken artificially. The difference in price between a smoked and non-smoked opal is dramatic. Non smoked are much prettier since no dark film obscures the vivid colors. We do not sell smoked opals.
