Steps in Spiritual Unfoldment — Frances W. Foulks — 1929
It is only when man becomes satiated with the material, satiated through the experi-ences which have come to him from follow-ing the emotions, the intellect, from seekingin the outer for satisfaction, that he turnswithin and there realizes that which leadshim to say: "I will arise and go to my Fa-ther." It is only when all that he has putfirst in his search for happiness proves tobe but the husks of life, that he turns fromthese to follow the path which the soul, allthrough the ages, has urged upon him as theonly true way to satisfaction. This is thebeginning of spiritual unfoldment, for itmarks a point where the desire and searchfor pleasures and things and people givesway to a hunger and thirst after righteous-ness: It marks a time of an emptying and arilling, a letting go and a taking hold, ofa tearing out of the very foundation of theold house on the sands, and a rebuilding onthe rock of Jesus Christ.
