All-discrete Purple op amp with high-nickel transformer balanced output. There is something to be said for character. While the Purple op amp may not have the pedigree of the 990s, it is a modern design meant for microphone preamps, inductor-based EQ, optical compressors, and even in the summing circuit of large American consoles.
