The dimensions listed are overall frame dimensions.  Each frame has a 3/4″ border.  If you need workable space (especially for the chalk stencils) please order the odd or 1/2 sizes, feel free to contact us and we can help guide you or create the perfect size for you. **Effective 03/01/2024 we are changing our backer to a Eucalyptus White Hardboard.  It is a pre-finished, acrylic top coated premium hardboard.  With this there is no need to mask the board prior to engraving or scoring.  (Unless you may want to paint fill).  You can do "all the things" except for watercolor.  The manufacturer of our specific strain of Espresso discontinued our product so we have switched to another brand
