This gray talc turns the same white color as other talcs when fired. Talc is a powdered form of steatite widely known as "soapstone". It's a very soft mineral that has a unique "slippery" feel. It's often utilized for stone sculpture. Talc is used in both clays and glazes. It's often associated with low fire ware. It gives whiteness in bodies and matting in glazes. In higher fired bodies it is used as a flux to improve vitrification. In the last decade (and before) talc was implicated as a material which can contain asbestos. Controversy and lawsuits followed.
