Additives are used to encourage certain properties, such as "mottling" or "snowflaking", or allowing a candle to have a greater amount of fragrance added, for a stronger scent. Additives are also used to discourage certain properties, such as cooling too quickly or shrinking too much. If you want additives already in the wax then you buy a "blended" paraffin.
