New Zealand kaolin is a very white, high translucency, and low impurity (especially low iron oxide and TiO2) clay.  It has a very interesting structure. Imerys is the company that mines and processes it (they bought it from New Zealand China Clays Co).  They don't call it "kaolin", but "Halloysite". They point out that the mineral halloysite is part of the kaolinite group of minerals and say  "Like kaolin, halloysite is essentially composed of alumina-silicates, however it has a hollow tubular crystal structure, which is markedly different from the platelet crystal structure of kaolin."...(see more)
