In archaic times, centuries ago when chemists were called "alchemists", copper sulfate was called "Blue Vitriol" (its full chemical name is copper sulfate pentahydrate).  The word "Vitriol" in ancient times meant the sulfate of many metals.  Green vitriol was iron (II) sulfate (ferrous sulfate heptahydrate), red vitriol was cobalt(II) sulfate, and so on. "Oil of Vitriol" meant concentrated sulfuric acid.  Other ancient names for blue vitriol were "bluestone" and "Roman vitriol".  We also carry the iron version, Green Vitriol (whose ancient name was "copperas"), and we also have a calcined copperas (or calcined Ferrous Sulfate)....(see more)
