Carved Bowl
Ceramics are difficult to photograph! She is a little more blue than the first photo and the little less blue than the second. Feel free to use your imagination but just know that she is a stunner. I threw this on the potters wheel with a very dark clay called Black Mountain. After trimming it to refine its shape and give it a foot I carved the pattern you see into it. I then took porcelain slip and inlaid it into all of the carvings to fill them up, a process called Mishima. The piece had to be dried very slow as to allow the two different clays to dry at the same rate. I glazed it in a light blue celedon that shows up very different on the different clay bodies. Approx 8.5 wide at the rim and 2.5 inches tall Scroll photos for her baby picture
