These beautiful baskets are named for the remote Binga district of Northern Zimbabwe. Tonga women utilize traditional weaving techniques to create intricately patterned baskets. Binga baskets are woven using the over and under style of ‘simple’ weaving and a 16 inch diameter basket can take around 2 weeks to complete. The baskets are finished using a coiled rim with a distinctive herringbone pattern. Due to the nature of production methods and the use of natural materials, each product may vary slightly in both dimensions and coloring - we believe that these natural variations enhance the authenticity of each item. Dimensions: Basket, 11"Dia.; Frame, 16" x 16" Color: Black Made of: Ilala Palm Made in: Zimbabwe / Johannesburg, South Africa Did you know? Traditionally, the baskets were (and still are) used for carrying maize or sorghum from the fields and then winnowing the grain.
