
Lone Eagle Peak, Mirror Lake and Cascade Falls
Difficulty: Difficult Location: Grand County, Colorado Lone Eagle Peak has been imprinted on me as one of the most awe inspiring peaks in Colorado and is still my favorite hike to date. While the peak is certainly the main attraction, this 18 mile round trip is a scenic jaunt from start to finish! Description: Nestled deep in the Indian Peaks Wilderness, the iconic Lone Eagle Peak stands at the water’s edge of one of the most beautiful alpine lakes in Colorado. The combination makes for one of the most scenic views in Colorado! Our excursion begins by skirting Monarch Lake, a serene oasis of its own. As we veer off at Buchanan Creek, the trail gains moderate elevation on switchbacks through a beautiful forested area until we begin to follow Cascade Creek. Here, we’ll be met with the first of many waterfalls along our journey. We’ll continue to gain elevation as the valley opens up to reveal breathtaking views of the mountain range.
