Homestead to Rimrock Hike at Castlewood Canyon

Difficulty: Moderate Location: Castlewood Canyon State Park, Franktown, Colorado This is a 4.3 mile easy to moderate hike through a Front Range gem secluded southwest of Denver featuring ruins, a waterfall, and unique geological formations. Description: This easy to moderate 4.3 mile hike will begin at the old Lucus Homstead. After taking in the remnants of the homestead we’ll make a vigorous ascent to the rim of the beautiful Castlewood Canyon. As we walk along the rim, you’ll likely see raptors flying above the canyon, a view of the Front Range and many unique geological formations. As we make the descent off of the rim, you’ll see the ruins of the Castlewood Canyon Dam that burst in 1933. We’ll finish our excursion along the Cherry Creek, passing a waterfall along the way.
