Thornton Waldo Burgess was a conservationist and prolific children’s author. Best known for his animal stories for young children, Burgess authored over 170 books as well as thousands of columns for the daily newspaper. Burgess’s stories have been enjoyed by children for over a century and still remain popular to this day. Mother West Wind “Why” Stories was first published in 1915.
