
Stachys moneri 'Hummelo' - Bettony
Looking for a pollinator friendly native with tons of appeal? The relatively unknown Stachys moneri 'Humelo' received the highest distinction in 2019, going home with the Perennial Plant Associations "Plant of the Year Award". Why? Well first, it produces food for a wide range of pollinators including many species of bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Second, while it is easy to care for it produces full panicles of cone-shaped violet and magenta colored flowers on strong stems. These absolutely pop above full feathery bright green foliage. The flowers make nice cuttings and really stand out in the garden as they rise above the foliage of other plants. Hummelo is a compact and tidy cultivar coming in at 18 inches high and wide making it a great plant for a clean looking garden.
